ILE week 14

This is week 14 in The ILE. This week in the ILE the 10th graders got their fish for a biology experiment. The experiment is an ecosystem with three thanks. The first tank has a filtration system, the second one has a plant in it, and the third one has small tilapia fish in it. For their experiment they have to control this ecosystem and make sure it survives. All through out the tanks water is being circled through the tanks. While the 10th graders were working with fish the 9th graders were working with music. The 9th graders worked on creating their tribal dances, were they had to pick a song or anthem and create a dance and words to go along with it. The 9th graders also had the periodic table challenge and went thru their checklists for the survivor projects to make sure they were doing the work at the correct time and not procrastinating. ILE week 12

While the sophomores presented their disaster plans to each other, Sophomores also started to work on our War project, which is due Dec. 22nd. For the War Project, each sophomore had to choose a visual to present everything that they’ve learned. They read a book about one of the wars. Stay tuned for next week’s blog. ILE week 11

The ILE 9 continued working on their survival projects. ILE 10 students had to finish their disaster plan projects and figure out how to present it.  Some groups used an infographic while others used posters.    ILE9 got to do their Best flag competition where they created flags for their different islands, then they got to vote .   they also got to do their culture creation stories. ILE week 10

This is week in The ILE marks the start of our second quarter. For our 10th week of the ILE, the ILE 9 and 10 officially started on their new projects, the ILE 10 on their Disaster plan project and the ILE 9 on their Survivor projects.  The Disaster plan project is the ILE 10 students split up into groups of 2, picking a state in North America, and then make a plan to prepare for the ebola virus coming into that area. Then, they have to find a way to get rid of, or prevent, the spread of the virus, all while trying to keep the citizens of that area calm and informed of the virus that could potentially spread. The survivor project is where the ILE 9 get to basically wipe the earth of all land and start from scratch. From their they get to chose the climate and location that they put it and make the geography of the land. After that, they get to create their own government, religion, and culture. ILE week 9

This was our week 9 in the ILE. Everyone in the ILE are getting ready for our term one to be over. For our high school we have four terms. These are times of 9 weeks. As the week went on we learned about a few controversial presidencies of the past. The first one was the election of 1876 with Rutherford B. Hayes v.s. Samuel J. Tiden fighting for the presidency. Rutherford B hayes won the election of 1876. The second election we learned about was the election of 1896 between William McKinley and William Jennings Bryan. William McKinley won the election. All week we focused mainly on politics. Stay tuned for next week’s blog. Also, make sure you check out our YouTube channel The ILE Update.

ILE week 7

This week in the ILE, the college promotional videos were presented and the students were given introductions to what they will be working on next. On Monday the different college groups were given the time to create an introduction to their promotional videos.  They were given a choice of how they were going to do the introduction whether it was a presentation, skit, kahoot, or interactive game. They were supposed to get the audience involved and excited to watch their promotional videos.  After the students presented their videos, they split into 5 different groups and gave reviews on the presentations and said which school they wanted to go to based on the videos and information that was given during their presentation.  Once the Milwaukee project was wrapped up, the students broke up into the ILE 9 and ILE 10 groups and were introduced to what they are going to be doing in the core classes. Stay tuned for next week's blog and the video of the presentations.  Also, make sure you check out our YouTube channel The ILE Update.

ILE week 6

This week in the ILE we spent the week working on our videos and getting them put together.   All eight groups had to finish their rough drafts, so the teacher could give reviews on their videos.  There were several little details that everyone worked on in their own different groups to make their projects the best they can be. On Thursday the teachers previewed each group's video. Then each group worked more on their video to make it the best it could be. Basically, all week we worked in our different groups and worked on our projects.

ILE week 5

The highlight of week five was going to four Milwaukee colleges, we traveled to Milwaukee Area Technical College, Marquette University, University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, and Milwaukee Schools or Engineering. All of the students went on tours of their different campuses. One student, Sarah Weber, went to MATC.  Sarah talked with Kyle Hayden, her introductory presenter, who told her a little about the programs and financial help that MATC has to offer.  Then the tour guide took her throughout MATC and they had the chance to interact with some of the professors.  After finishing the tour, Sarah and her group went to eat lunch in their colleges cafeteria. Once lunch was over they had a chance to interview Mr. Hayden.  After interviewing Mr. Hayden, Sarah’s group met up with the rest of the ILE groups and headed back to Arrowhead. Stay tuned for a future blog on the videos that we will soon make.

ILE week 4

This is our fourth week of ILE. First thing you should know is that the ILE stands for Integrated Learning Experience. The ILE has been going on for five years. This is the sixth year of the program.

Some stuff we have done so far this year is our pillars project. The pillars project this year was to find a problem in our school and find a solution to that problem. Everyone in our class chose a different topic.

This week in ILE we were introduced to our latest project. The Milwaukee project, is based around the ILE students “applying” to different colleges.  In this project the ILE students are touring different colleges, where they will interview different professors and students, gathering information and learning about the campus life at their college.  They will be working in groups of 3 or 4 this week, to try and create a promotional video for their college. The students will explain why this college stands out among the others.
